Sharon Daves Bell, born on June 10, 1949, in Wheeler, Texas, peacefully passed away on March 19, 2024, in Bradenton, Fla. She was 74 years old.

Sharon is survived by her devoted daughter, Robyn Bell (Linda Jacobs), of Sarasota, Fla.; and her loving brothers, Carroll Daves, of Wellington, Texas, and Jackie Daves, of Amarillo, Texas; as well as several nieces and a nephew. She had an additional brother, Carl Daves, of Lubbock, Texas (deceased).

Sharon’s journey began in Wellington, where she shined as a drummer in the Wellington Skyrocket band in high school. She pursued her education at Texas Women’s University, having received a full scholarship to perform in the Serenaders, their all-girl stage band. After owning her own grocery store in Wellington from 1975 to 1978, she moved to Amarillo and began working at Safeway on 34th and Georgia.

Throughout her career, Sharon left an indelible mark on the Amarillo grocery industry, touching the lives of countless customers with her warm smile and genuine kindness. From her many years at Safeway/Homeland and United Market Street, Sharon’s dedication and exceptional service were recognized by her customers and colleagues many times. While with United, she earned team member of the year honors for Sales and Sampling in 2007. She took great joy in connecting with customers, brightening their days as their “favorite checker.”

In 2012, Sharon retired from the grocery business and relocated to Bradenton, Fla. to be close to her beloved daughter, Robyn. In her final years, she found immense happiness in attending Robyn’s performances as the Sarasota Pops Orchestra conductor and enjoying the vibrant Florida retirement lifestyle.

Sharon was an avid amateur athlete who often walked, ran or biked the streets of Amarillo. In her younger days, she enjoyed playing racquetball and softball and working out at a local gym. She enjoyed running local 5K races and was particularly excited to have been chosen to be on the poster for the Susan G. Komen race one year.

Sharon will be remembered fondly for her sense of humor, wit, generosity and ability to make people feel warm and welcome. She loved serving the people of Amarillo through the grocery industry and will not soon be forgotten.

Details of a celebration of life service in Amarillo will be shared at a later date, allowing friends and family to come together to honor Sharon’s life.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any of the following charities in Sharon’s memory: Neuro Challenge Foundation for Parkinson’s, Foundation for Grieving Children, State College of Florida Foundation Music Program, Sarasota Pops Orchestra, Tidewell Hospice.
