A church service for Robert McGuire, Sr., 78, of Paducah, Texas, was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at the First Assembly of God Church in Paducah with Rev. Ricky McGee officiating, assisted by Geraldine Savage. Interment followed at Garden of Memories in Paducah under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. A visitation was held 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. at the church prior to the service. Mr. McGuire passed from this life on April 11, 2024, in Vernon, Texas.

Robert was born on Aug. 12, 1945, in Dallas, Texas to George Mc-Guire and Linnie Pouncy McGuire. He attended school at Dunbar Community School, where he was salutatorian of his class and also a member of the Dunbar Tigers State Championship team of 1964. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army. From 19651969, he served in Germany. He married Lamarylis Davis on May 28, 1972. From this union, they had three children, Stefanie, Robert Jr. and Richard.

Robert worked for Paducah Independent School District (ISD) as a custodian and farmed for Pat Puckett. He lived in Paducah until 1985. His law enforcement career started in 1985. He served as the Chief of Police in Estelline, Texas until 1989. From 1989 until the mid 1990s, he was the Memphis Chief of Police and Hall County Sheriff until 2003. Robert returned to Paducah to serve as Chief of Police from 2003-2011, when he retired after 28 years of faithful law enforcement service. He moved to Vernon in 2023 to be with his daughter, Stefanie.

Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Stefanie King and husband Chad, of Vernon, and Richard McGuire and wife Hali, of Plainview, Texas; 10 grandchildren, Marcus Crosby, of Vernon, Kelia McGuire, of Minnesota, Marquis McGuire, Robert Mc-Guire III, of Claude, Texas, Cameron McGuire, of Canyon, Texas, Emma McGuire, of Los Alamos, N.M., Elizabeth Overbey, Denae Nichols, of Plainview, and Caelub and Brianna Vega, of Crosbyton, two great-grandchildren, Tayler Leiā€™Ann Schieck, of Minnesota, and Emersen Ray McGuire; and four brothers, Truman McGuire, Mack Mc-Guire, Sammy McGuire and Raymond McGuire, all of Dallas.

He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Linnie McGuire; his wife, Lamarylis McGuire; his son, Robert McGuire Jr.; and his siblings, Ben, Ennis, Andrew, Elmo, George, Josephene, Della Faye, Lucy, Naomi and Linnie.
